Well, I had a good reason to write a post about baby shower decorating ideas. I am expecting my first grandchild this September. Everyone says I have no idea what is going to hit me. My sweet friends from church hosted a baby shower for my daughter-in-law, and I wanted to share some of their wonderful ideas with you.
There is nothing sweeter than attending a baby shower. A newborn baby is a reminder of the goodness that life has to offer. I wanted to share some of the baby shower decorating ideas that made the day so special.
On the center of the main table was a beautiful diaper cake centerpiece. Rolled up cloth diapers placed on top of a cake stand, created the three-tier cake. Sparkly tulle was gathered together to make a skirt. Pink fabric gathered headbands hold the diapers in place, and silk flowers placed in the middle, made a perfect focal point. Pinterest is full of some really fabulous baby shower decorating ideas. I really don’t know how I survived without Pinterest.
One of my favorite decorations was the baby shower door decoration. A beautiful baby rattle made using a small dowel rod, silk flowers, and tulle.
On the invitation for the shower, was written this message; “Please bring a book instead of a card. It doesn’t matter if it’s well-loved or brand new, either way the book will remind them of you. Write a sweet message on the inside cover and your words can be cherished over and over.” What a really clever idea!
7 Tips for Hosting a Fabulous Baby Shower
1. INVITATIONS – Send invitations out at least 2 weeks before the baby shower. Be sure to include the pertinent information, as well as where the mom-to-be is registered.
2. PLANNING – Planning and delegating is the key to hosting any successful party. If you have several hostesses helping you with the shower, make sure to plan everything out, and delegate jobs out evenly.
3. DECORATIONS – Keep things simple. Decorating the front door, a baby shower centerpiece on the main table, and a few other decorations here and there, is really all that you need.
4. FOOD – Again, I like to keep things simple. If the shower is mid-afternoon you can serve cake, a fruit plate, nuts, small chocolate candies and mints. For drinks you can serve punch, tea, and lemonade. The key is making sure you have enough food for your guests.
5. GAMES & OTHER FUN IDEAS – There are tons of baby shower games, and I would begin my search on Pinterest. Three games is a good number to keep everyone interested without getting bored. Another fun idea is having a basket filled with colored notecards, and ask every guest to write some motherly advice for the new mom-to-be.
6. MUSIC – Have soft music playing in the background. It creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.
7. GRACIOUS HOSTING – Greet your guests with a smile. Hug your mom-to-be. While excited for her baby shower, she will also be nervous. And, most of all, there is no such thing as a perfect party. Don’t stress yourself out thinking everything has to be perfect. Taking care of the mom-to-be and your guests is the number one priority. Everything else will fall into place.
Well, if any of you ladies out there have any grandmother advice, please add a comment and share! This is a new journey for me, and I find wisdom from others very comforting and much appreciated.

This is a wreath I made for a friend’s baby shower. I tied little baby booties to the top of the wreath, and used fabric to make the bow. For the rest of the wreath, I cut small pieces of tulle and tied it onto the grapevine wreath.
