Decorating Made Easy
You are in for a treat! If you enjoyed the Apartment Makeover Tour, you’re going to LOVE this Historic Home Tour!
This tour is all about an Airbnb located in the heart of Chattanooga, Tennessee. St. Elmo Farmhouse is a historic home that the owner did some special house renovations to create a happy, peaceful, and wonderful experience for all their guests! This historic home was built just twenty years after the Civil War. I wish the walls could talk! If you live in Tennessee and want to take a road trip, this is one vacation spot you want to hit!
I am going to give you a tour of this fabulous vacation rental. There are a ton of wonderful interior design ideas in every room of this home.
This is our Airbnb Special Host- Karri and her husband. They live in California and have been married 24 years! Initially they were searching for an investment property that had potential for a great return- but also somewhere they could go and enjoy.
While searching for a smaller city that attracts a lot of tourists- they found Chattanooga, Tennessee and fell in love! Chattanooga has a ton of history, great food, outdoor activity opportunities and is near the beautiful Tennessee River. Their vacation rental property is in the historic district of St. Elmo. I was so excited to find this gorgeous vacation spot! Karri did not leave one detail untouched. From the decor to the amenities for guests, it was an absolute 10! I am thrilled to share with you this historic home tour. Take a look!
As soon as we pulled down the gravel driveway, I knew we had found a beautiful vacation spot!
First of all, the pictures did not do this historic home justice! The front porch was just stunning. Just look at those doors!
This is the main foyer when you first enter the home. Take a peek at that chandelier! Absolutely stunning!
Next on the home tour are the bedrooms! No detail went unnoticed- Karri did the perfect job incorporating the history of the home into her decorating! The history of this historic home were reflected in every room, accented by beautiful modern touches!
These bunk beds were so fun and every kid’s dream! From the light fixture to the bedding, to the sweet window- this room was perfection!
We throughly enjoyed eating in this dining room. The generous table has ample seating and Karri created a lovely space to enjoy a meal with friends and family. Dining room decorating can be tricky, especially in a historic home! The modern touches accented the space beautifully!
Next stop is the kitchen!
The kitchen was so happy and had everything you would need at a vacation rental! Once again, pictures do not do this home justice! This gorgeous kitchen was bursting with charm.
One of my favorite details of this historic home is in the kitchen. One of the cabinets still has the home’s original wallpaper! Check out the beautiful wooden doors below.
I am in love with this bathroom! Once again, Karri nails it with the details. Take a peek at that chandelier- gorgeous!
The last stop on our historic home tour is the living room. This space was probably one of my favorite rooms in the Airbnb. Look at those barn doors- just beautiful!
How cool is this record player? Seriously so fun!

The JD’s team did a complete downtown apartment makeover in The Gulch here in Nashville. We did a kitchen makeover, a living room makeover, and a master bedroom makeover.
Our client was living in this apartment while caring for her elderly mother. A new season has begun, and it is time for her to make this apartment completely her style, and give her a special place to call home.
The first room in her downtown apartment makeover we started with was the kitchen. I truly believe the kitchen is the heart of the home. But, in this kitchen and there was a lot of visual noise going on.
First, we decided to take down the shelves. Next, my client was not crazy about the tile so she decided to tackle painting the tile herself! The old kitchen island was a stark red color, and wasn’t quite the right size for the space. So, we replaced the kitchen island with a brand new one!
After removing the shelves, painting the tile and the island- it was time to decorate!
When you walk into her apartment, the kitchen is one of the first rooms you see. What a beautiful and cozy room to walk into! We replaced the shelving above the sink with a mirror. It made a huge difference and lit up the entire space! Our client was thrilled with this transformation! Accessorizing a kitchen can be very difficult! If you are interested in kitchen decorating tips and ideas, you can check out my video here.
The next room we tackled in her downtown apartment makeover was the living room. As you can see in the photo, the living room had the same shelves as the kitchen. We needed to remove the shelves, and add some artwork to help soften the room.
What a great apartment view!
We added custom drapes, a rug, new accessories, wall decor, and furniture. This room is so cozy now and the perfect spot to relax after a long day!
We had this huge hutch that when you first walk into the apartment, that’s all you saw. So, we needed to replace this piece with something different.
We removed the hutch and replaced it with this gorgeous buffet. We added the mirror, lamps, and floral arrangement. It absolutely transformed the space! Walking into her apartment now feels warm and cozy. I am absolutely thrilled with how this living room makeover turned out.
So my favorite room to share in her downtown apartment makeover is her master bedroom! I could not wait to get my hands on this room! My vision was to create a romantic space that just made the world go away.
My client knew exactly what she wanted for her bed! She found this photo and did the legwork herself. She found the doors, stained them herself, and my husband installed them. Her apartment bedroom makeover photos are absolutely stunning! Check them out below.
I purchased some gold medallions and painted them with chalk paint to give them a much more romantic look. Next, we hung some chiffon fabric draping over the doors. Take a peak at her chandelier as well!
Her vision came to life! I am in love with this gorgeous bed!
I would like to thank my client for letting us share this beautiful downtown apartment makeover with you! If you enjoyed this home tour, be sure to check out my Cozy House Tour here on my blog or Youtube channel.

There isn’t anything I won’t try to paint. I’ve painted bathroom tile floors, chandeliers, fans, furniture, and more! I have some old cushions on my patio that have faded and decided to give Rust-oleum Outdoor fabric spray paint a try!
You can save so much money if you can give an up-cycle with paint. When I was in Home Depot, I was thrilled to find Rust-Oleum Outdoor Fabric Spray. I am a huge fan of Rust-Oleum and have saved so much money using their products that have turned out gorgeous! However, I have not yet used their outdoor fabric spray paint.
I have spray painted fabric before and the problem is, when it dries, it is scratchy and stiff. Rust-oleum claims to have long lasting color and an ultra soft feel. Let’s get started!
My beige outdoor cushions really needed a spray paint makeover. First, I set the cushions up against a cardboard box so that they would be easier to spray. Next, the directions say to shake the spray paint for an entire minute before getting started. After that, it is important to go in slow motion back and forth, keeping six to eight inches from the cushions. After waiting 30 minutes, I came back and put another coat on.
I am done painting the cushions and have to say I am disappointed in the coverage. It seemed to get really splotchy. I’m not sure if I did something wrong or maybe have the wrong type of cushion. I put on several light coats and still could not achieve a solid color across the cushion.
In conclusion, my product review on the Rust-Oleum outdoor fabric spray paint is a thumbs down. I may try it again on something else in case I did something wrong.
I am still a huge Rust-Oleum fan! In fact, while I was letting my cushions dry, I spray painted some medallions for a client. I used Rust-Oleum spray paint to change them from a brown rust color to a beautiful soft white. They turned out beautifully and you can check those out here!

Thank you and have a wonderful day!
