I wanted to share our front yard makeover with you! Our landscaping is finally completed at our new home. I do not have a green thumb, but, I have a huge appreciation for beautiful landscaping and gardening. When we purchased our new home, the trees and bushes were taking over the house. The bushes all along the house were extremely tall and growing out over the sidewalk.
The large trees flanking the driveway were overgrown and in desperate need of trimming. We also had a flower bed, or what I think was supposed to be a flower bed in the dead center of our yard that was also overgrown.
Scott and I knew to get this project done right, we would need to hire professional help. This is the first time we have ever hired a landscaper. This like any other major project can be an expensive investment. So, choosing a landscaper that would help us stay within our budget was important.
So, we met with him one Saturday afternoon, and I was armed with my Pinterest board ideas. Both Scott and I knew we wanted to keep things as maintenance free as possible. Although there is no such thing as total maintenance free landscaping, keeping things as simple as possible was our priority.
As a child, I grew up in Maryland. My mother and father loved American history, and we spent many days visiting Washington, D.C. and all the surrounding historical sights. The one historical sight that made the biggest impact on me was Mount Vernon. I remember walking all around the grounds and seeing the beautiful landscaping. I loved the crunch of the pea gravel under my feet as we toured the plantation, and my favorite memory was the smell of the boxwoods.
This was one bush I wanted to be planted around the house. We choose American boxwoods, and these were our highest ticket items. In between each boxwood was planted azaleas. Our landscaper suggested two crepe myrtles on each side of the porch. Then for even more color, he planted Limelight hydrangeas.
He left me two spots near the front porch steps where I can plant flowers. The yard and flower beds were filled with monkey grass, so they were dug up and repurposed in other areas.
The last project was removing the center yard flower bed and then trimming the six large trees down the driveway. That made such a difference. This was quite a project, but our landscaper did an outstanding job! The last project on the front of the house is getting some handrails installed! Have a good weekend!
